How do I get rid of an unwanted Pop-up-window?

The unwanted Window announcing "App-Updates available" is popping-up in the right-up corner of the screen when I start my MacBook Pro (early 2013), running under OS X 10.8.5. Any helpful suggestion would be welcome.

System Preferences/Software Update or App Store (I don't remember what it is called in Mountain Lion) and uncheck automatically check for updates.

Thanks Eric, but your proposal didn't solve my problem, as I already had unchecked the point "automatically check for updates".
